OpenAI closes the DALL·E GPT - save the images

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, will remove the official DALL·E GPT on August 30, 2026. The company encourages users to download images they want to keep before the end date.

The DALL·E GPT is the ready-made image assistant that OpenAI itself has offered inside ChatGPT. The notice applies to that particular GPT, not all image generation in ChatGPT.

OpenAI refers users who wish to continue creating or editing images to ChatGPT Images. The company also writes that user-created GPTs with image generation enabled are not affected by the rollout.

The release notes do not describe any automatic migration of old images. The safe practical interpretation is therefore to open the conversations or the GPT history where important images are located and download the original files before August 30.

Check that the files open correctly after downloading. Also save the text description and other instructions that are needed if the image needs to be recreated later.
